When we meet again…

What are you looking forward to this coming year? I know I’ve been impatiently waiting to see all of my Mensa friends and family in person. It’s not that we haven’t been connected, we have been well   connected online. What I’ve really missed is the face to face with others, seeing the person smile and react to our conversation and reading their body language. The ability to spend quality time in each other’s company and laugh.

The greatest thing about our gatherings are the people and the quality or even silly time spent together and sharing ideas and laughter. As our world begins to open up, we have a lot to look forward to in this coming year.

Things I think about are:

  • Walking into hospitality and seeing the smiling faces. Hearing the low rumble of laughter and chatter. Watching as parents bring their children in from Spark for lunch as the kids excitedly talk about what they saw and did during their morning.
  • I love walking through the games room to see what new games are available and see the groups of members huddled over a table as they work through the rules and try to outdo each other.
  • Watching people walk out of the presentations talking about what they heard and saw and sharing it with others.
  • Striding past the registration table as excited members get their name badges and personalize them to make them their own.
  • Wondering what the Mr. Mensa contest will bring this year in the way of talent and creativity from each contestant and excitement about what their hard work will bring for the Foundation.
  • The debate room is always fun to stop in and see what idea or matter they are discussing and watching them take a side and argue, even if it isn’t the side they prefer. Just to have the conversation and sharing of ideas.
  • Visiting the Regional Meet and Greets and watching the RVCs visit and answer questions for their regional members.
  • Seeing how many members attend the Leadership Development Workshops as they increase their knowledge on how to be a better leader or learn more about their position.
  • Yes, even attending the AMC meeting. It will be good to see the AMC in real life and watch them work hard for the betterment of the organization.

These are just a few of the things I’m eagerly anticipating in August in Houston at the World Gathering. I hope that you plan to join us.

But that isn’t all. We have a variety of regional events as well that should be on track starting later this year and each one is an exciting variety of confabulation and presentations.

Will we see you there? What are you looking forward to this coming year in your Mensa world? I’d love to hear about it.

As always, I’m listening.
